Gardens of joy

We are passionate about learning from the land and co-creating with it.

We have two garden spaces dedicated to working collaboratively to learn, grow together, and bring joy and beauty to the community.

Our garden is not a typical community garden where one gets a plot, but instead, we collaboratively create and tend to the garden during our weekly garden work parties. Our high school interns are an integral part of this process as part of their internship.

Tivoli Community Farm is our main “home base” in the old baseball field previously part of the former Livingston School.

Before the garden, this was a flat baseball field, but we have transformed it into a bountiful space by creating raised garden beds using the hugelkultur method.

Our hugelkultur beds use woody material from the Tivoli Lake Preserve and many layers of organic material, including our homemade compost, to create nutrient-rich mounds. These beds are excellent for retaining moisture!

We have transformed the hugelkultur beds into beautiful beds filled with various veggies, flowers, and herbs meant as landing spaces and beacons for pollinators.

We also have a burgeoning flax garden, part of our flax-to-linen project.

Flax-to-Linen program

Our Flax-to-Linen program is a season-long, hands-on experience that dives deep into growing, processing, and learning about this beautiful plant and fiber. Throughout the growing season, volunteers will co-cultivate two flax beds from seed. We will dive into the history of flax production and the deep relationship this plant has had with people over generations. As the months pass, participants will develop their relationship with Flax’s entire life cycle and explore hand-processing techniques to turn previous flax crops into cloth.

The Brother Yusuf Memorial Garden at our Normanskill Space will be home to various squash, pumpkins, flowers, and herbs.

We created a spiral garden at our Normanskill space. We hope this can become a space for meditation.

In 2020, we started The Brother Yusuf Memorial Garden, a produce garden at the Normanskill Farm. We share this space with the Radix Center and are so grateful for it! Vegetables grown will be donated to volunteers, community members, and local organizations in the region.

If you are interested in receiving produce, please reach out for more information.

COMMUNITY COMPOST: FOOD SCRAP DROP OFF PROGRAM

We are accepting food scraps to be composted! This is located at the entrance by our farm.
